It is definitely a good choice for beginner runners who want to run in comfortable running shoes, but also for those who are preparing for their first half marathon. The slightly higher than average drop will benefit those with weaker ankles or less developed leg muscles. The Salomon Aero Glide 2 is not a running shoe for speed, but you can also run faster stretches in it, with the midfoot geometry supporting a fast rollover.

The upper of the Salomon Aero Glide 2 running shoe is made from a 3D synthetic mesh material that has good breathability. The shoe’s upper is all about comfort, which is something you may need for longer runs. The midsole of the Salomon Aero Glide 2 running shoe is almost identical to the previous version’s midsole, made from a fancy EnergyFoam foam that’s a combination of EVA and Olefin foam. EnergyFoam is an extremely comfortable soft foam that has some dynamism, but is more suited to a slower, relaxed pace. The midsole is wider than average, which is important for stability in a running shoe with such a high cushion. The midsole is 37.4mm thick at the heel and 27.4mm under the toes with a 10mm drop. The high drop benefits the heeled runner, who will appreciate the high cushioning the most. As before, the midsole features a Reverse Camber geometry, which means that it bends upwards under the toes, creating a rocking, cradle-like effect to keep the foot rolling quickly and smoothly over the ground. Although the Salomon Aero Glide 2 is optimised for slower, longer runs, it performs well, if not the best, on part-track workouts where there are faster stretches.

The outsole of the Salomon Aero Glide 2 running shoe hasn’t changed much from the previous version. It’s still made of Contagrip rubber, which offers good grip on both dry and wet surfaces. The outsole covers almost the entire midfoot, which further improves the grip of the shoe. Although it covers a large area of the midsole, it is well articulated so that it does not stiffen the midsole too much. The Contagrip rubber has good abrasion resistance, and the thickness of the outsole suggests that the outsole is durable.
