Brooks Ghost Max running shoes
8.2/10 (Expert Score)Overall, the Brooks Ghost Max running shoe is a very comfortable, highly cushioned running shoe. It has a soft sole but not too soft, comfortable cushioned upper but good breathability. Versatile and durable, it is also recommended for those who only have one running shoe. It doesn’t look much like the Gost 15, so I don’t quite understand the name. It’s a double-edged sword that Brooks has also named this shoe Ghost, because although it’s just as much an everyday and comfortable running shoe as the Ghost 15, it’s softer, has a lower drop, and is more dynamic, which I’m sure many will like, but there will also be some who will be disappointed if they’ve used a Ghost 15 before.
Description
The Brooks Ghost Max running shoe is a versatile, highly cushioned, comfortable running shoe. It’s best suited for everyday runs or longer slower runs, but because of its versatility, it can also function as a single running shoe for those who like softer, more comfortable running shoes. The midfoot is almost half an inch higher than the Ghost 15, but it hasn’t lost much stability and the shoe hasn’t got any heavier. It was time for Brooks to show something new in the Ghost line, as there hasn’t been much change in the last 2-3 versions. It’s a good idea that they kept the Ghost and didn’t change it much, but instead created a new side product line called the Ghost Max. The only unusual thing about the shoe is that while the drop of the Ghost shoes used to be high, 12 mm, the Ghost Max has only 6 mm, so it will be unusual at first for those who have used Ghost before.
The upper of the Brooks Ghost Max running shoe is very comfortable, as we’ve come to expect from Brooks. The upper is made from a mesh material that has great breathability. The mesh material is thin, especially at the toes, so the durability is not as good. The tongue of the shoe is not squat and not fixed, but I don’t see this as a problem. The heel is heavily cushioned and not stiff, which is good for comfort, but it can’t hold the toe in as firmly. There are 3 different upper widths available, which is great news for runners with wide feet. The insole is thick and comfortable, it is rare to see a 6mm thick insole.
The midsole of the Brooks Ghost Max running shoe is made from the same DNA Loft v2 foam as the Ghost 15 but it feels different in the Ghost Max, and not just because of the increased core. Since the weight of the shoe hasn’t changed despite the higher midsole, it can be inferred that there is some change in the density of the foam. This foam feels softer than in the Ghost 15. Since Ghost shoes are slightly stiffer than average, the softer midsole of the Ghost Max is a good point for those who wanted more softness while wearing the Gost 15. The stability of the shoe is not much worse than the Ghost 15, despite the higher and softer midsole, which is due to the wider midsole… The Ghost Max is more versatile, not difficult to run at different paces, and is a better choice for longer distances than the Ghost 15.
The outsole of the Brooks Ghost Max running shoe is articulated and covers a surprisingly large proportion of the midsole. Thanks to the articulation, the shoe has good torsional flexibility, but stiffens up in flexion to hold its rocker, rocker shape well. The outsole is moderately soft, which gives the shoe good traction. The outsole is slightly thicker than average, 3-4 mm, making it more durable than average. Despite its softness, the outsole does not wear out quickly, so everything is in place for the outsole to last for many km.
Overall, the Brooks Ghost Max running shoe is a very comfortable, highly cushioned running shoe. It has a soft sole but not too soft, comfortable cushioned upper but good breathability. Versatile and durable, it is also recommended for those who only have one running shoe. It doesn’t look much like the Gost 15, so I don’t quite understand the name.
