Asics GT-1000 12 running shoes
8.3/10 (Expert Score)Description
The Asics GT-1000 12 running shoe is Asics’ entry-level, low-cost stable running shoe, designed primarily for beginner runners, but also a perfect choice for advanced runners who don’t want to spend a lot of money on a stable running shoe. You won’t be running record pace in this shoe, and it may have its shortcomings on longer runs, but if you need some rest, support and stability for shorter distances, this shoe could be a good choice. The Asics brand has several stable running shoes. Among these, the most cushioned stable shoe with the most technical innovations is the Asics Gel-Kayano 30, and the slightly faster, lighter, less cushioned stable running shoe is the Asics GT-2000 12.
The upper of the Asics GT-1000 12 running shoe is a mesh material with very good breathability. In addition to good ventilation, the redesigned upper provides better foot support than previous versions. Although the mesh material itself provides good support for the foot, unfortunately the not so good lacing system makes it a bit worse. The tongue of the shoe is not fixed, which slightly compromises the foot support. The upper is well padded and comfortable on the heel. The heel is moderately stiff but holds the foot well. The padded parts of the upper are durable and resist chafing but the mesh part, which is thin for breathability, is less durable.
The midsole of the Asics GT-1000 12 running shoe is made entirely of Asics’ FLYTEFOAM foam, which is not the softest, not the most dynamic foam Asics makes, but rather stiffer and firmer, not giving back much energy. Despite the hardness of the outsole, it flexes well. Stability is provided by the Asics LiteTruss system, which adds additional firmness to the midsole. LiteTruss technology is a support in the midsole that is flexible, not completely rigid, so it doesn’t reduce the shock absorption capacity of the shoe. You don’t feel a strong sense of stability in the shoe, but it also controls steps, ground grip and kick well. Better shock absorption is provided by the GEL insert in the heel, which is a gel-like material as the name suggests. The sole of the shoe is not high, averaging 28.5 mm (24.5 mm at the front, 32.5 mm at the heel with an 8 mm drop), which further improves stability.
The outsole of the Asics GT-1000 12 running shoe is made from Asics’ AHAR rubber. The outsole covers a large amount of the midsole, but is articulated in a way that doesn’t negatively impact flexibility. The outsole is 5 mm thick, which is a lot to say. Although the AHAR rubber is a soft compound, it has good wear resistance, so overall a good grip, durable outsole is what the GT-1000 12 has.
Overall, the Asics GT-1000 12 Running Shoe is a cheap, durable, reliable stable running shoe. A good choice for beginner runners and advanced runners looking for a cheap, durable stable running shoe for their slower, not very long runs.
Manufacturer's specification
The shoe has been redesigned with a soft mesh upper, a new heel shape and a more comfortable insole. These features also come together with a tongue construction to help create a more supportive fit.
LITETRUSS® technology is positioned at the inner angle of the midsole to reduce pronation. It helps produce a more supportive stride while keeping overpronation in check.
