New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 v12 running shoes

Description

The New Balance Fresh Foam X v12 is a running shoe designed primarily for longer distances. Although it’s prettier than its predecessor, it’s unfortunately at the expense of performance.
After the first few runs, I wondered if it wasn’t bad, if there was anything wrong with it, but there wasn’t really anything outstanding about it.
The upper of the New Balance Fresh Foam X v12 is probably the only one that can be unequivocally said to be better than its predecessor, and prettier too. Soft mesh that hugs the foot well.
The heel grips the heel well and the shoe widens nicely all the way to the front of the foot. The midsection is seamless, which is paired with a well-cushioned tongue, so it’s not uncomfortable for longer runs. However, the front of the foot is too soft, making it easy for the foot to slip.
The midsole section is provided by the redesigned Fresh Foam, which the manufacturer claims is softer and more flexible than its predecessor, but it’s not as noticeable. On the contrary, it felt stiffer, which is odd because it’s nearly 4mm thicker than the predecessor Fresh Foam X v11.
According to some measurements, the thickness of the heel section is less than what the manufacturer claims.
Overall, it has not improved over the 11. It is not more flexible, more uncomfortable for toe-tip landers due to toe sliding.
The New Balance Fresh Foam X v12 is a good running shoe, comfortable, durable, with very good heel support, but New Balance didn’t explode with this one.

Manufacturer description

If New Balance only made one running shoe, that shoe would be the 1080. What makes the 1080 unique is not only that it’s the best running shoe New Balance makes, but also that it’s the most versatile. The 1080 delivers top performance for all types of runners, whether you’re training for a world-class race or running after a train to catch it.

The Fresh Foam X 1080v12 represents a consistent evolution of the model’s signature features. The seamless transitions of the underfoot cushioning experience have been fine-tuned with updated midsole cushioning that applies more foam to wider areas of the midsole and increases flexibility at narrower points.

The ultra-modern approach is also reflected in the design of the 1080’s upper. The v12 offers a supportive, second-skin style fit with the engineered Hypoknit upper for a more streamlined overall design.

Features

  • Fresh Foam X midsole foam with approximately 3% bio-based content provides the most cushioned Fresh Foam experience for incredible comfort. The bio-based content is made from renewable resources to help reduce our carbon footprint.
  • The Hypoknit upper is designed to provide stretch and support in strategic areas.
  • The bootie upper design hugs the foot for a comfortable, supportive fit
  • Underfoot cushioning and flex zones are oriented based on pressure mapping data
  • .

  • The blown rubber outsole at the forefoot provides excellent bounce back.
  • Meets New Balance’s Green Leaf standard: the upper is made from at least 50% recycled material, and at least one midsole/outsole material contains at least 3% bio-based or 5% recycled material.
