Description
The Asics Trabuco Max 2 trail running shoe is a highly cushioned, fast and comfortable shoe that is versatile enough for almost any type of trail running. Its good traction means it won’t slip in the most difficult terrain, even in wet conditions. The midsole is very high, even street running shoes don’t have such a high midsole, which makes it soft but dynamic, protecting you from sharp rocks.
The upper of the Asics Trabuco Max 2 trail running shoe is made of mesh material, which has good breathability. The inside has extremely well-cushioned layers that make it comfortable to wear. The front of the shoe has a separate rubber layer to protect the foot. The tongue is well padded and here, as on the Trabuco 11, there is a small rubber strap, a lace loop, to keep the tied laces in check. Unlike the previous version, which had a quick lacing system, it has traditional laces. As the midsole is wide for stability, the upper has also been made wide, so those with narrower feet will not feel secure in holding the foot. The heel section is stiff but has plenty of cushioning to keep the foot comfortable and stable.
The midfoot of the Asics Trabuco Max 2 trail running shoe is made entirely from one of Asics’ best, most exciting foams, FlyteFoam Balst+ foam. This foam, lightweight, flexible, dynamic, soft without being floppy. The same foam can be found in the Novablast 3, or the Gt-2000 2, where it has become a favourite of many. The midsole height is huge, even for street running shoes, with an average 40.5 mm thick midsole, but it’s rather out of the ordinary for trail running shoes. This high FlyteFoam Blast+ foam makes the shoe very comfortable and dynamic, allowing you to run longer distances and faster paced runs (the extremely grippy outsole adds a lot to the faster paced runs). The midsole uses Asics’ GuideSole technology, which means that the geometry of the midsole helps you to roll over quickly and smoothly (the front of the shoe leans upwards). A high midsole has the disadvantage of making the shoe unstable, which Asics has tried to remedy in the Trabuco Max 2 by adding width to the height (this also helps with traction). On lighter terrain, the Trabuco Max 2 doesn’t feel unstable, but on harder terrain, it doesn’t give you the security to take advantage of the rest of the shoe (fast midsole, good grip outsole).
The outsole of the Asics Trabuco Max 2 trail running shoe provides extremely good traction on all terrain. The Trabuco Max 2 is one of the best traction outsole boots available today. The outsole is AsicsGrip technology, which is both the anag and pattern of the rubber compound. The spikes on the outsole are designed to provide good traction in all directions. To reduce weight, holes are drilled in the outsole, which otherwise covers the entire midsole.
Over all, the Asics Trabuco Max 2 trail running shoe is a versatile, very comfortable shoe with outstanding traction and good shock absorption due to the thick midsole. Suitable for longer runs, the shoe also performs well on faster runs thanks to the dynamic FlyteFoam Blast+ foam.
