Description
Adidas Adistar 4 upper
The Adidas Adistar 4 running shoe upper is made from Primeknit, a soft, comfortable knitted material. It moulds well to the shape of the foot for an enhanced feeling of comfort, but does not hold the foot tightly. The upper is moderately breathable and suitable for long-term wear. The shoe’s thick, highly cushioned tongue provides great comfort. Although the tongue is not fixed, tongues this thick are less likely to slip out of place as they can be tied more tightly. The shoelaces are wide and flat, which makes them slightly difficult to thread through the eyelets, but this is not a major issue. The heel collar is also highly cushioned and stiff, holding the foot securely in place. While the upper is clearly optimised for comfort rather than performance, it is not heavy despite the high level of cushioning.
Adidas Adistar 4 midsole
The midsole of the Adidas Adistar 4 running shoe is made entirely of Adidas Repetitor foam, a soft EVA foam. While the energy return of Repetitor foam is slightly below average, the Adistar 4 is designed for comfortable, lower-intensity runs rather than fast ones. With a heel height of 41 mm, the midsole offers excellent shock absorption, making it a good choice for longer runs. The only limiting factor for long runs is the lower energy return, as the shoe is not as durable. The stability of the high, soft midsole is also below average, which could cause problems over distances longer than half marathons. Despite its high midsole, the shoe does not have high torsional rigidity, making it very comfortable for lower-intensity runs. With a midsole drop of 6 mm, which is lower than average, the shoe puts more strain on the muscles around the ankle and lower leg while relieving the knee and thigh.

Adidas Adistar 4 outsole
The Adidas Adistar 4 running shoe outsole is made from Adidas’s own Adiwear rubber compound, which is slightly harder than average. Thanks to this harder rubber, the outsole has good wear resistance. The outsole is of average thickness compared to everyday running shoes, but it could be said to be more durable than average. As the outsole is harder than average, the shoe’s grip is weaker, though this is less noticeable on dry surfaces and more noticeable on wet ground. However, since this shoe is designed for lower-intensity runs, the slightly weaker grip does not cause any problems. The midsole is segmented with transverse and longitudinal segments to keep it flexible and elastic for increased comfort.
