Adidas Pureboost 23 running shoes
8/10 (Expert Score)Overall, the Adidas Pureboost 23 running shoe is a great choice for everyday runs for even beginner runners who run shorter distances and don’t care about speed. The shoe has extremely good breathability, making it suitable to wear in the gym. Although it is a neutral running shoe, it has very good stability. Soft, flexible midsole, but not thick, so not as good shock absorption and energy dissipation. Durable, it will be your companion for a long time, whether on runs or in the gym
Description
The Adidas Pureboost 23 running shoe is a good choice for beginner or casual runners looking for a low-cost running shoe for their everyday shorter runs. The shoe has good breathability and looks good, making it a good choice as a training shoe or for everyday wear. For more advanced runners, this shoe may not be the best choice, as it has low cushioning, is not suitable for longer distances, is heavier than average (especially considering the low cushioning) and has a slightly higher than average drop (10 mm), so it is more suitable for heel runners.
The Adidas Pureboost 23 upper
The upper of the Adidas Pureboost 23 running shoe consists of two layers. The outer mesh section has large ventilation holes and the inner section is also ventilated, so overall the breathability of the shoe is very good. The tongue of the shoe is moderately cushioned and not fixed, but this is not a bother especially for short distances or slower runs. The heel collar looks high at a glance, but in reality the upper is just a thin, soft pull tab that doesn’t bother you when running. The lower part of the heel collar is moderately stiff and has medium cushioning, but there is a TPU (plastic), reinforcing layer on each side of the heel collar, which makes the Adidas Pureboost 23 running shoe stiffer and more stable. The upper is durable and has good abrasion resistance. The upper of the shoe has a wider design, which favours those with wider feet, but may not be suitable and secure for those with narrow feet.
The Adidas Pureboost 23 midsole
The Adidas Pureboost 23 Running Shoe Midsole is made from Boost foam, which is soft but also heavy. The midsole thickness is less than average, 27mm in the back and 17mm in the front, with a 0mm drop for a more substantial feel. The higher than average drop tends to favour those who land with their heels on the ground, and is encouraged by this high drop. A thinner than average midsole has its advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, the shoe may be lighter, but this is not the case with the Pureboost 23. It also has the advantage of being more stable, which is true for the Pureboost 23. Stability is further improved by the fact that the midsole is wider than average, and that there are two side plastics on the upper, at the heel, as mentioned in the upper. The midsole is soft and very flexible in all directions. It is rare for a running shoe to be so stable and flexible at the same time. Overall, the thin, soft and stable midsole has a below average energy dissipation capacity, making it suitable for slower, shorter runs.
Outsole of the Adidas Pureboost 23
The outsole of the Adidas Pureboost 23 running shoe is articulated, without excessive stiffening of the midfoot. The thickness is average, roughly 3 mm. Although Adidas often uses Continental rubber on the outsole of their running shoes, they used a proprietary rubber compound for the Pureboost 23. The outsole’s grip is slightly better than average, which is good enough for a running shoe that’s suitable for slower, shorter runs. The better grip is partly due to the pattern of the outsole and partly because the compound is softer than average. Softer rubber compounds tend to wear out faster, but the Adidas Pureboost 23 outsole doesn’t wear out quickly, so it’s durable.
Summary
Overall, the Adidas Pureboost 23 running shoe is a great choice for everyday runs for even beginner runners who run shorter distances and don’t care about speed.
