The tongue is well cushioned, fixed on both sides and like most new Asics trail running shoes, it has a rubber strap to tuck the laces into so they don’t get in the way while running. The laces are flat and serrated on both sides to prevent them from coming undone easily. The upper is narrow, giving good foot support, but may be uncomfortable for those with wider feet.

The sole leans upwards at the toe, which is rigidly held by the carbon plate, but this is great for a fast and smooth rollover.

The outsole of the Asics FujiSpeed 2 trail running shoe features Asics’ proprietary Asicsgrip material with 3-branch spikes. The spikes are thick and not big enough for muddy terrain. The outsole is durable, covers the entire midfoot, and Asics has tried to save weight by making small holes in the outsole.

If you have a strong ankle and have no problem with a trail running shoe with a lower drop and prefer a stiffer stiffer, but are looking for a fast bouncy running shoe for your fast trail runs, the Asics FujiSpeed 2 is one of the best and most affordable options. If the next version is a bit softer, a bit more stable, but retains the existing dynamism, it will be one of the best trail running shoes for races.
