In all, the Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 running shoe retains the good qualities of a reliable, comfortable running shoe optimized for slower but longer runs. It’s a bit heavy to be fast, but it’s not designed for fast runs. They’ve only made minor changes from the previous version, which have made it 15 grams heavier, but with better foot support, better breathability, a softer and more stable midsole, and a better grip outsole that’s more durable.

Description

Not even a year later and here’s the latest version of the Nimbus in the Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 running shoe. The Nimbus line is Asics’ line of products for maximum cushioning and comfort, nothing has changed in that regard in the 26th version, and if you look at the 26 very superficially, not much has changed from the previous version to the Asics Gel-Nimbus 25, but the details show that there are small changes that when added together already show that the new version is different. It’s very important to note that version 25 was a huge step in the life of the product line, they changed a lot and very boldly, so it’s not a big surprise that version 26 hasn’t changed much from its predecessor. The upper has changed the most, the midsole and outsole only a little, but we won’t just be writing about the changes, we’ll be presenting the shoe in a way that will be useful for those who aren’t familiar with the previous version

The upper of the Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 running shoe is made of a knitted mesh material, as opposed to the plain mesh material of the previous version. The knitted mesh is more flexible, fitting the foot better. The breathability of the shoe has been improved and can be used for summer runs. It’s a bit narrower, but that’s not a disadvantage because it stretches better and because a wider version is also available. The tongue is uniquely flexible and stretchy, which provides great comfort. The heel collar is not too stiff and is heavily cushioned, so it holds the foot well and is very comfortable. Directly underneath the sole is an OrthoLite® X55™ footbed that is very flexible, returns energy well and is very comfortable. The lacing system has also changed slightly. Instead of two center holes, the laces are laced over, which allows them to be pulled tighter, hug the foot better, and provide better support. Overall, the Nimbus 26 gives you the premium comfort you’ve come to expect.

The material of the midsole of the Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 running shoe hasn’t changed, it’s still made from FlyteFoam Blast Plus Eco foam, which is soft, comfortable, lightweight and flexible. The height of the midsole has been increased by half a millimetre to 41.5mm at the heel and 33.5mm at the front, and it has also been made 2mm wider. These dimensions clearly show that this is a highly cushioned high shock absorbing sole. The Pure Gel insert inside the heel further enhances the shoe’s shock absorbing capabilities. The foam in the midsole could be fast (it’s the same foam in the Novablast 4, or the even faster Magic Speed 3), but with the Pure Gel insert and the heavier weight (304 grams), the Nimbus 26 is not fast, but that’s not what Asics intended this shoe to be.

The outsole of the Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 running shoe has two different rubber compound overlays, like the previous version, but not the same as before. The forefoot and midsole of the Nimbus 26 outsole are made of ASICSGRIP, a softer grippier material, and the heel where the most wear and tear occurs is made of AHAR+, a durable harder material. The outsole does not cover the entire midsole, so it does not stiffen the otherwise soft midsole, but there is more outsole than in the previous version. The outsole pattern has also changed, giving the shoe better traction.

In all, the Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 Running Shoe retains its good qualities of remaining a reliable, comfortable running shoe optimized for slower but longer runs. It’s a bit heavy to be fast, but it’s not designed for fast runs. They’ve only made minor changes from the previous version, which have made it 15 grams heavier, but with better foot support, better breathability, a softer and more stable midsole, and a better grip outsole that is more durable.
