Description
The Adidas Solarglide 6 is a versatile, everyday running shoe. I deliberately didn’t write running shoe because its versatility lies not in the fact that it can be used for different types of running, but in the fact that it can be used for walking or gym workouts in addition to running. It is best suited for everyday runs of less than 15 km, when there is nothing to do, no need to run fast, no intervals, just run at your own comfortable pace. Slightly stable, high cushioning, comfortable upper, but the shoe achieves these qualities by not skimping on the weight, so it’s quite heavy, 343 grams. Not common for today’s running shoes, but it takes a minimum of 15-20 km of running to break in the shoe and make it more comfortable.
The upper of the Adidas Solarglide 6 running shoe is made up of multiple layers. The outer is a mesh material, complemented on the inside by a comfortable, soft lining with lots of cushioning. The heel collar is stiff and high, which can be annoying for some, but it’s covered in plenty of cushioning to keep the foot comfortable and well supported. The tongue of the shoe is also thickly padded, which adds to the comfortable feel.
The Adidas Solarglide 6 running shoe midsole is made up of two layers of BOOST foam, with LEP 2.0 in between the two layers. BOOST foam is a 0-year-old technology, the idea being that it doesn’t pour the foam in one piece, but instead creates tiny balls that are compressed into the shape of the shoe’s midsole while still warm. Thanks to this technology, the energy return is better, the shock absorption is better, the foam does not stiffen in colder weather and it is much more durable. For better stability, the shoe has a plastic plate between the two layers, which does not cover the whole sole, and a flat thin plate in the middle, with 2-2 forks branching off both front and back, the ends of which are visible in the middle of the midsole. This plate improves the energy transfer and also the stability of the shoe. Overall, the high midsole is soft, comfortable, has good energy return and is stable. However, the SolarGlide at is heavy, so it’s not a good choice for fast or long.
The outsole of the Adidas Solarglide 6 running shoe is one of its great strengths. It grips well on both dry and wet surfaces. As it has a warm upper, the Boost midsole doesn’t stiffen in cold conditions and has good traction, making it an ideal running companion in colder weather. The outsole made of Continental rubber does not cover the midsole in its entirety and does not overstiffen the sole of the shoe, but the weight loss is returned in the thickness of the outsole. Because of its thickness, the Solarglide 6 outsole is not only grippy, but durable.
All in all, the Adidas Solarglide 6 running shoe is a safe, comfortable, stable running shoe that grips well and can be used in cold weather. Due to its heavy weight, it is more suitable for everyday slower and not too long runs. It is also a good choice for beginner runners and is great for running on a treadmill.
