ASICS Sonicblast running shoes
8.7/10 (Expert Score)The ASICS Sonicblast running shoes are versatile but are primarily designed for faster runs. The midsole is made of two types of medium-soft, dynamic foam with a plastic plate between them. This plate provides the shoe with stability and dynamism and gives the midsole enough stiffness to maintain its curved shape at the front, ensuring smooth transitions. The lightweight, well-ventilated upper provides good support for the foot during faster runs and offers minimal yet sufficient cushioning and comfort. The outsole aids in fast running and provides a trampoline-like bounce. It has excellent grip but minimally covers the midsole in the heel area. These shoes are intended primarily for experienced runners who run faster. They are unnecessary for beginner runners and do not provide the level of comfort necessary to enjoy and get used to running.
Description
ASICS Sonicblast upper
The ASICS Sonicblast running shoe upper is made of a thin mesh material that allows your feet to breathe well. The upper has a very classic look and design. It is moderately wide and fits true to size. It’s not a racing shoe, but it has a light and comfortable cushioning that’s perfect for a marathon. The tongue is thin and has minimal padding. It is fixed on both sides. The second-to-last lace hole is a cord that connects to the upper part of the shoe, but it is more flexible than the other holes. This allows it to fit more perfectly to the shape of the foot. The heel collar is less padded, but it holds the foot well and securely. A small detail, but the brand logo on the side of the shoe (which symbolizes a leaping tiger and was designed for the 1966 Olympics in Mexico) features small colored lines. These lines are a reminder and tribute to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Due to the pandemic, the seats and reserved seats for 1-2-3-4 people were not placed next to and below each other. Instead, they were placed diagonally (so that spectators would not come into contact with each other). A similar pattern was drawn from above as the ASICS logo symbolize on Sonicblast.
ASICS Sonicblast midsole
The midsole of the ASICS Sonicblast running shoe has three layers. The top is made of a new foam called FlyteFoam Turbo². This foam is soft, flexible, and lightweight. This new foam is 32.5% more flexible, 9.6% softer, and 2.8% lighter than FlyteFoam Turbo foam. The bottom layer is made of FlyteFoam Blast Max foam, which is also soft and dynamic and is used in the Novablast 5 running shoe. Between the two foams is the Astroplate, which is also a new development. The three layers make a very versatile midsole. It is light, soft, but very dynamic and bouncy. The plate in the midsole is made of plastic, not carbon, so the shoe is not too stiff, but it stiffens enough to keep the midsole rolling. It’s great for both lower-intensity runs and long, faster runs.
Many runners have said that they wish there was a Novablast with a plate. Well, now there is, and it’s not just any plate. The pattern on the Sonicblast midsole’s side is a tribute to the first Novablast 1 running shoe, which was released in 2019. The two patterns are similar:
ASICS Sonicblast outsole
The outsole of the ASICS Sonicblast running shoe is made from a special rubber called ASICSGRIP, which is perhaps the best material ASICS uses for outsole of its running shoes. It has the best grip, and how well it wears depends on how much the runner uses it. The outsole does not cover the entire midsole. The front part looks a lot like the outsole placement and shape of the Novablast and Superblast shoes. The outer semicircular frame is complemented by a large inner outsole, which helps with the trampoline-like bounce that has become almost synonymous with Novablast shoes. The outsole is practically only present in the toe area, so if you land on your toes, it will definitely wear out faster than usual.
