Brooks Running, a sportswear brand in the USA for over 100 years, was primarily a footwear manufacturer for several sports until 2001, when they changed direction and focused solely on running. Even before 2001, they had several successes in the running shoe urge.

  • In 1972, they won the Olympic marathon in Brooks running shoes.
  • In 1977 they were the first to sub-laminate EVA foam
  • In the 1980s, the first GORE-TEX upper was used
  • In 81, they come out with the first running shoe for overpronating runners
  • In 82, two different types of hard-surfaced foam are used in running shoes to help runners who over- or under-pronate
  • In '89, HydroFlow is introduced, which provides shock absorption according to the runner's body weight
  • In 99, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 1
  • is launched.

Following 2001, Brooks is focusing full-bore on running and coming out with a number of new innovations:

  • 2002: the Adrenalin GTS 4 introduces the Progressive Diagonal Rollbar, which uses triple density foam to perfect stability
  • 2006: Introduction of MoGo. MoGo provides runners with more cushioning, more rebound, more durability and more energy return
  • 2007: BioMogo. Brooks further develops the revolutionary MoGo midsole with the world's first fully biodegradable midsole cushioning material.
  • 2010: Greener technology. Brooks redefines what it takes to make a racing shoe, using 75% recycled materials
  • 2013: Rather than trying to "fix" the way runners walk, Brooks embraces emerging biomechanical research that suggests the "right way" to run is as individual as the runners themselves. The Transcend is the first shoe to feature GuideRails technology.
  • 2017: DNA AMP. Brooks launches the most responsive midfoot ever, featuring technology that returns more energy to the runner than any shoe from leading competitors.
  • 2018 DNA LOFT. With a balance of foam, air and rubber that disperses impact away from the body, it offers runners a soft, comfortable run without sacrificing responsiveness or durability.
  • 2018 GuideRails 2.0 Brooks introduces a whole new approach to support technology that embraces the individuality inherent in each runner's stride.

Brooks already has a number of running shoe product lines, the most popular of which are Ghost, , Glycerin, Adrenaline GTS, Levitate, Launch, but in addition to running shoes, they also make apparel primarily for running.
