On Running, or simply On Running Shoes, is a very young brand founded in 2010. It was created by five-time Ironman champion Olivier Bernhard and two fellow athletes simply because he was not satisfied with the running shoes and sportswear available and thought of creating what he thought was the perfect running shoe.

Olivier at the Lake of Lakes realised that his experience wasn't enough to make good sportswear, so he involved many elite athletes, including several celebrities, in the design process, which not only helped the quality of the On running shoes he made, but also helped the brand's reputation spread faster.

The On shoes are not only good, but also unique in design, a matter of taste, but either someone likes them a lot or they don't.

What makes On running shoes so special is the technical innovations, which are, without being exhaustive:

  • CloudTech
The hallmark of On Running running shoes that makes all of their shoes instantly recognizable are the U-bottom "pods" that can move outward, significantly cushion the shock of ground contact, and reduce fatigue
  • Helion foam
On Running's proprietary midsole foam that provides both a rigid frame and flexibility
  • .
  • Speedboard
This is a thermoplastic polymer that is poured over the midsole. It works in a similar way to carbon board, bending as it hits the foot and "launching" the foot as it kicks away, like a bow.
  • .
  • Missiongrip
Missiongrip is the fancy name for the rubber outsole layer of On running shoes, which gives good traction and reduces wear on Helion clouds and pods.
  • .
  • FlipRelease
During longer runs, the foot swells up to half / whole number increases. The FlipRelease is a clip that holds the laces together, but can be snapped off with a quick flick. This means that the lace tightening required at the start can be released in one quick movement to make the running shoe less tight, so that swollen feet are not uncomfortable.

Overall, On running running running shoes are very durable, partly due to their quality. They're a little stiffer, a little harder, so they're preferred by more advanced runners. A lot of people use On Running running shoes for walking or everyday wear because they're comfortable but not too soft or baggy.
