Description
The Asics Gel-Kayano 31 running shoe will be available from the beginning of June, so we can’t write a detailed analysis of the shoe yet, so we’ll just write a quick preview, where we’ll present the main features and changes of the shoe.
The Asics Gel-Kayano 31 Running Shoe remains Asics’ most stable, comfortable running shoe for long runs, the Gel-Kayano line is all about stability. The new version 31 has mainly changed the upper and outsole, while the midsole and stability solutions remain unchanged. The weight of the shoe has increased very slightly by 2 grams.
The Gel-Kayano 31 upper
The upper of the Asics Gel-Kayano 31 running shoe has changed a lot from the previous version, the Asics Gel-Kayano 30 running shoe. The material of the forefoot is thinner and more breathable, but it’s still comfortable and cushioned. The tongue of the shoe, with medium cushioning, holds the foot well. The heel collar is rigid, which is important for keeping the foot secure and stable. The top of the heel collar is made of a knitted material for easy access, and there is also a pull tab on the heel collar to make it even quicker and easier to get into the shoe. The upper will be available in both wide and extra wide versions.
Asics Gel-Kayano 31 midsole
The Asics Gel-Kayano 31 Running Shoe Midsole remains virtually unchanged. It remains made from FlyteFoam Blast Plus Eco foam, a lightweight, soft dynamic foam. Shock absorption in the heel is improved by the PureGel insert, as in the previous version. The midsole is high, 40 mm at the heel and 30 mm under the toes with a 10 mm drop. Stability of the shoe continues to be aided by 4D Guidance technology and midsole geometry. 4D GUIDANCE SYSTEM™ works with body movement to provide adaptive stability and enhanced support when runners need it most. For stability, the midsole is stiffer than Gel-NImbus, Gel-Cumulus, or Novablast running shoes, which also feature FlyteFoam Blast Plus Eco foam. The midfoot of the Asics Gel-Kayano 31 running shoe is designed for lower intensity, but even longer runs.
Asics Gel-Kayano 31 Outsole
The outsole of the Asics Gel-Kayano 31 Running Shoe has also changed a lot. The previous version was made with the AHAR+ rubber compound, which has been replaced by HYBRID ASICSGRIP, which is also used by Asics in the Gel-Nimbus 26 running shoe. The HYBRID ASICSGRIP means that Asics uses two different outsole materials, the AHAR+ and AHARGRIP rubber compounds that were used before. The AHAR+ (the black rubber in the picture) is a harder rubber compound and is used at the heel and front of the shoe where it is subjected to more wear and tear. AHARGRIP (the blue rubber in the picture) is softer and has a better grip. The outsole covers a large area of the midsole on the inside, where the 4D GUIDANCE SYSTEM is located, giving the shoe additional stiffness and making it even more stable.
