The predecessor of Asics, ONITSUKA Co., Ltd. was founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka in Japan with the aim of making sports shoes that were accessible to everyone. The Asics Corporation was born in 1977. The acronym ASICS itself is an acronym made up of the initials of the words Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, and loosely translated, the meaning is "Intact body, intact soul."
