Asics Superblast 2 running shoe
8.6/10 (Expert Score)Overall, the Asics Superblast 2 running shoe remains one of the most versatile, universal, lightweight super trainers for fast running. Thanks to the midsole foam, the shoe is dynamic, soft, comfortable and springy, the upper is comfortable, medium cushioning with good breathability, and the outsole has good traction. The only downside to this shoe is that it is expensive, but that versatility comes at a price. Despite its price, it’s one of the most sought-after and popular Asics running shoes for everyday running. It’s not meant for beginners, Asics has too much for that, but if a beginner doesn’t like running in this shoe, they won’t like running in anything else.
Description
The Asics Superblast 2 Running Shoe is one of the most anticipated running shoes of the year, as the first version is one of the most popular and loved Asics running shoes. The Superblast 2 is a super trainer running shoe, which means it’s a very versatile, all-purpose running shoe that’s lightweight and supports fast, even longer runs. The Superblast 2 is a running shoe that works well as a single running shoe, meaning that if you don’t want to buy and use multiple running shoes for your different types of runs on different types of pavement, the Superblast is the perfect choice to support your slower, faster, shorter, and longer runs. The Superblast 2 features Asics’ most advanced running midsole foam, FlyteFoam Turbo Plus (FF Turbo+), a new upper and a new outsole. Despite all the changes, the running experience is only slightly different from the previous version, which is good because the previous version was a very good running shoe.
The Superblast 2 is close to the Novablast 4, there are a lot of similarities on the outside, you could even think of the Superblast 2 as a version of the Novablast Pro, better supporting fast runs for longer distances.
Asics Superblast 2 upper

The Asics Superblast 2 Upper has changed a lot from the previous version. The upper of the previous version was more like a racing shoe upper, the upper of the Superblast 2 has been moved towards more comfort. The upper is made of a thin woven stretch mesh material with a variable weave pattern and weave density that is asymmetrical in some areas of the upper. Where strong foot support is less important, the upper is looser and has better breathability, but where it is important to secure and hold the foot firmly, the upper is tighter. The tongue of the shoe is fixed on both sides with thin, high, large holes for good ventilation. The tongue has padding on the upper to prevent the laces from “biting” the foot. The tongue has a strap at the top to help secure the tongue. On the strap is the English equivalent of the Asics acronym Anima Sana in Corpore Sano, which means Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body. The heel collar of the Superblast 2 is moderately stiff, well cushioned, comfortable and secures the foot well. The upper fits true to size and can accommodate wider feet.
Asics Superblast 2 midsole
The Asics Superblast 2 Midsole consists of two layers. The thicker top layer is the FlyteFoam Turbo Plus (FF Turbo+), which is also used in Asics’ racing shoes, and the thinner bottom layer is the FlyteFoam Blast Plus Eco, which is often used in Asics’ everyday running shoes. The use of ti different foams makes the shoe dynamic and comfortable. The midsole is stable enough, has good energy dissipation and can be used for both fast and slow runs. By using the FF Turbo+ foam, the Superblast 2 running shoe makes it easy to maintain a faster pace over longer distances. Although Asics does not intend this running shoe for racing, it does not have a carbon plate, so if you are not running faster than 4-4:30 miles in half marathons or marathons, you can use the Superblast 2 for racing. The previous version was also the running shoe that you wanted to use for any kind of running, the good news is that this has been retained, it’s still a universal super trainer, the Superblast 2 is a little softer, a little more comfortable than the previous version. Surprisingly, the midsole height is 0.5mm less, 45mm at the heel and 37mm at the forefoot, but it’s better thanks to the new foams. Despite the high midsole height, the stability of the shoe is good, mainly due to the soft but stiff midsole with a wide design.
Asics Superblast 2 outsole
The Asics Superblast 2 Outsole doesn’t cover the entire midsole, so it can stay lightweight. The outsole of the previous version was very durable, capable of running up to 1000km due to the very durable AHAR+ rubber compound. The Superblast 2 outsole is made of AHARGRIP rubber, which is lighter, softer and has better traction, but wears a little faster. Because the shoe is new, there is no experience with extended use, and the durability of the shoe is unknown, but Asics shoes with similar outsoles have proven to be durable. The outsole traction is excellent due to the softer rubber compound and deep tread pattern.
Summary
Overall, the Asics Superblast 2 running shoe remains one of the most versatile, universal, lightweight super trainers for fast running.
