Asics Magic Speed 3 Running Shoes

The Asics Magic Speed 3 running shoe is a running shoe designed for racing or speed training. Its structure, its weight, the technologies used all suggest that it is possible to run fast in it. Although it is not as expensive as a super shoe, those who usually run slower are completely unnecessary to buy it, will not be comfortable in it. Slow for longer runs it is too stiff due to the TPU/carbon plate, narrow therefore not stable, but this is not a disadvantage of the shoe, since it does not want to be a slow, stable shoe.

We were very pleased with the second version, as it fixed most of its flaws in the 1 and became a very good running shoe, but if all is true the Asics Magic Speed 3 was able to surpass even that and became an even better shoe:

• became lighter by 17 grams,
• The sole has become 2 mm thicker, 29 mm at the front, 36 mm at the heel (the drop is still 7mm)
• got a new disc

Here it is worth comparing with its predecessor.

The upper of the Asics Magic Speed 3 running shoe is made with Motion Wrap technology, which is currently the lightest super racing shoe used by Asics to date. Very light mesh material that gives good and safe vision. The tongue is thin and fixed on both sides. The heel collar is also only minimally padded, but it holds the foot very well. The stiff heel mitt is a little harder to put on, but this is a forgivable disadvantage. The top is not only light, but also very breathable.

The midsole of the Asics Magic Speed 3 running shoe has changed a lot compared to the previous version. The carbon plate in Magic Speed 2 was a TPU carbon blend, now it is completely carbon and present along the entire length of the sole part. They were able to make this change without making the shoe stiffer because the material of the midsole also changed. The 2 had FlyteFoam Blast Plus above the carbon/TPU plate, and the harder FlyteFoam Blast Plus foam below it, and the Magic Speed 3 had the softer FlyteFoam Blast Plus foam below and above it. Since the midsole is 7 mm thinner than the toes, the shoe is much stiffer and harder than the heel part, which helps a lot in pushing away.

The outer sole of the Asics Magic Speed 3 is practically the same as the previous version, made of Asics proprietary ASICSGRIP material, which has been proven on the soles of many shoes, has a good grip and does not wear out quickly. The design of the Magic Speed 3 outsole is similar to that of the higher-end Metaspeed Sky+, which is a grid pattern on the front. This is brilliant because it does not cover a large part, adds less weight to the shoe, but still adheres to the outsole on a large surface.

Overall, Asics Magic Speed 3 came closer to super racing shoes. It became more comfortable, softer and received a full-fledged carbon insert. Responsive, but also soft, bouncy, you can run very well in it at a pace and will also hold its place as a race shoe until the half marathon distance. It almost brings the performance of a supershoe, but it is more durable and cheaper, so a running shoe with a very good value for money is the Asics Magic Speed 3.
